American Barbecue Map
$ 44.00 USD
The American Barbecue Map is the first ever visual representation of American barbecue culture in its entirety. The Map took two years and 375 hours of painting to complete, and was entirely painted by hand. In the research for the map, artist Joseph Veazey visited 150+ barbecue restaurants across the South. The Barbecue map features 184 of the top American BBQ restaurants, from old school institutions to the new school leaders of the craft barbecue movement. Restaurants were chosen based on inclusion in various national and regional barbecue ranking lists, regional popularity, longevity, and the extent to which the restaurant exemplifies its regional style. The map also features a a signature dish of each region that lays claim to its own unique barbecue style; this includes most of the Southern states and some satellite locations like Kansas City, Chicago, Santa Maria in California, and Hawaii. An illustrated timeline of barbecue history, 25 individual barbecue kings and queens, and the top bbq sides and desserts are all also included on the Map. Try to look at it without getting hungry! The poster is offset printed on high quality 120# cover stock, and ships rolled in a heavy duty cardboard tube. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Southern Foodways Alliance to contribute to the documentation, studying, and exploration of the diverse food cultures of the changing American South.
